East Carolina University is a public research university in Greenville, North Carolina. It is the fourth largest university in North Carolina. I had the opportunity to partner with the ECU Center for Counseling and Student Development to develop an application that would help ECU students to gain a better understanding of their mental health and the factors that can affect it.

Project Overview

Problem:

In 2020, East Carolina University experienced a significant surge in mental illness cases, placing a heavy burden on the ECU Center for Counseling and Student Development. The sheer volume of students seeking counseling overwhelmed the center to the point where no appointments were available for a staggering six-month period. Unfortunately, there were no existing mental health apps that enabled students to monitor their emotional well-being or conveniently reach out to the ECU Center for Counseling and Student Development.

Solution:

ECU students were in dire need of a solution to enhance their mental health and access resources without compromising their personal information. I developed an application designed exclusively for ECU students, aiming to provide them with a comprehensive understanding of their mental health and the various factors that can impact it. With a range of features, the app enables students to educate themselves about their mental well-being, offering valuable resources for external assistance and actionable steps for personal improvement.

Our users can create profiles anonymously to engage in conversations with other ECU students within our community. The true identity of individuals will remain undisclosed unless they voluntarily choose to reveal it.

The ECU Mental Wellness Community is a a secure haven for ECU students seeking support and insights into managing their mental health. Here, students can explore discussion boards and engage in conversations to learn from others' experiences.

The interface employs a harmonious color scheme, blending vibrant tones with subtle accents, resulting in a visually calming and engaging interface. The well-defined sections and clear icons enable users to access various features and functionalities with ease. Navigating through the app is effortless, with intuitive gestures and responsive touch controls that further enhance the user experience, allowing for fluid interactions.
